Facing Doubt in our Faith Journey

4/7/2024

Picture
God provides community as a model for believers.

A place where we are loved, despite our doubts.
A place where we can study God’s word.
A place where we can learn the model of living Jesus demonstrated.
A place where we can learn how to love God and others.
A place where we can live lives of love, acceptance, forgiveness, and trust.

Secret Discipleship

3/10/2024

Picture
You can't be a secret disciple of Christ.
Either secrecy will destroy the discipleship,
or the discipleship -- if it's real and alive -- will destroy the secrecy.

Don't be afraid of what the world will think.
Live your faith for all to see.

 - George Fletcher

Scripture Readings:
Psalm 107:1-3, 17-22
Luke 23:50-53, John 19:38-42

More Than Enough for Ministry

God will not allow us to shrink back from monumental ministry.

Churches that desire to be part of God's mission will always live between the realities of God's abundance and our own fear that there is not enough. We will always see more need than we can meet.

God will do his part. But He expects us to partner with Him in monumental ministry. As Jesus expected of his disciples when they fed the 5,000.

 - Rick Clore

Scripture Readings:
Psalm 145:8-9; 14-21;
Matthew 14:13-21

In a Bind

Faith is a process rather than a possession.
It's on again/off again rather than once and for all.

Faith is not being sure where you're going, but going there anyway.
It's a journey without maps.

 -  Frederick Buechner

Scripture Readings:
Psalm 13:1-6;
Genesis 22: 1-19

Mercy in Mayberry

Mercy is meant to be shared. And sharing mercy with one another requires us to get to know people we may be estranged from.

Doubt and Faith

4/16/2023

Doubt and belief don't need to be pitted against one another. They can sit side by side, journeying with us. helping us along the way.

Belief is not something we achieve. It's something we continue to explore, and ask questions about, and stand in awe of.

 - Erin Burt

Scripture Readings:
Psalms 16, John 20 19-31

Blue Christmas Meditation

This period of dispiritedness,
this period of sadness,
this period of grief
is a time we are meant to move through.

Jesus will tell us how to get through that longest night.

In Jesus there is life.
In Jesus there is abundant life.
In Jesus there is eternal life.

 - Pat Nabers

Scripture Readings:
Psalm 30:5; Psalm 56:7-8; John 21:4-7, 9, 12

Stuff

The pursuit of stuff has become a national obsession. We are having smaller families and building bigger houses.
Why do we need these bigger houses?
We need a place to put our stuff!

It is only Christ who can deliver us from greed and commercial addictions. He invites us into an enduring life-liberating love. May we find ourselves walking in love as Christ loved us, and thereby discover the fulfillment of God's eternal promise.

 - Norris John

Scripture Readings:
Jeremiah 18-1:11; Psalm 139 1-6, 13-18; Philemon 1:21; Luke 14:25-33, 15:48-16:47

Listening for the Right Question

8/14/2022

Picture
Do we have our "yeah, buts" ready to go? Or are we listening to the question Jesus asks?
"Do you want to be healed?"

So often we get caught up in the how that we don’t recognize the Savior in our midst. Jesus, who wants to take us and heal us his way.

Because Jesus does want to heal us. He wants to give us grace and to give us mercy.

 - Andrew Meyer

Scripture Readings:
Psalm 67
John 5:1-9

No amount of stuff -- not even the stuff that's most important to us --could ever replace the most important thing of all. God's love for us.

God is and always will be our refuge.
