Jesus gives us the promise of eternal life. But how do we live this life now? How do we use our riches now? How do we see those deserving our care now? How do we give them the attention and fellowship now? Jesus wants to shape our lives so that we would have a meaningful and joyful life now.

Maybe -- just maybe -- Jesus is saying that rules are meant to be broken when it benefits people; when lives are saved; when community is formed; when wealth is shared; when love abides; when grace and mercy abound.
The pursuit of stuff has become a national obsession. We are having smaller families and building bigger houses. Why do we need these bigger houses? We need a place to put our stuff!
It is only Christ who can deliver us from greed and commercial addictions. He invites us into an enduring life-liberating love. May we find ourselves walking in love as Christ loved us, and thereby discover the fulfillment of God's eternal promise.
