The Beatitudes aren't a blueprint for success in this life.
But they are a checklist for the Christian life.

This period of dispiritedness,
this period of sadness,
this period of grief
is a time we are meant to move through.

Jesus will tell us how to get through that longest night.

In Jesus there is life.
In Jesus there is abundant life.
In Jesus there is eternal life.

 - Pat Nabers

Scripture Readings:
Psalm 30:5; Psalm 56:7-8; John 21:4-7, 9, 12

Signs and Persecutions!

Following Jesus is not an insurance policy.
Following Jesus does not insulate us from danger, or suffering, or illness, or even death.
But God is with us in the midst of the suffering.
God is present with us always.
 - Pat Nabors

Scripture Readings:
Malachai 4:1-2b
Luke 21:5-19

God says, "I will remember their sin no more."

That's pretty good advice for us.

How many of us live our whole lives nursing that grudge, nursing our childhood hurts?

God chooses to offer forgiveness
God chooses to forget.
God chooses reconciliation.

Scripture Readings:
Jeremiah 31:31-34
John 8:31-36

Justice!

Sometimes I ask the question is God is so righteous and God is so just, how come he's so slow?
But our faithfulness in waiting is because we've read the last chapter. We know that no matter how long the wait, on the last day we have received the sure and certain promise of resurrection to life eternal.

Scripture Readings:

Gen. 32:22-32; Luke 18:1-8

Looking or Seeing?

Jesus gives us the promise of eternal life.
But how do we live this life now?
How do we use our riches now?
How do we see those deserving our care now?
How do we give them the attention and fellowship now?
Jesus wants to shape our lives so that we would have a meaningful and joyful life now.

Sometimes we think coming to church is about us.
We want the familiar hymns.
We want to see our family and friends.
We think it's about being comforted.

But Jesus says no.
When you leave this building, you are entering your mission field.

 - Pat Nabers

See, Jesus doesn't ignore the Law. He fulfills the Law. For Him, the Law isn't about checking the boxes.

It's about bringing grace and mercy into this world.

The Law doesn't have the last word. The Law must bend to compassion and love.

Isaiah 59:9b-14
Luke 13:10-17

Who Is My Neighbor?

What makes us neighbors with people who are like us and people who are way not like us is that we are all in need of a Savior.

Some of us know it, and some of us don't. But we all need the Good Samaritan to care for us.

 - Pat Nabers

Col 1:1-14
Luke 10:25-37

Jesus calls us over, and over, and over,
inviting us into discipleship.

Calling us louder and sweeter and
more insistently than our excuses.
