The OPC Blessing Box is a food resource available to all.
For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat. (Matthew 25)
Our Blessing Box ministry is for those in immediate need. Orange County has several resources to aid families and individuals who haven't the means to purchase food. The Department of Social Services, the Christian Emergency Council, and the local Food Bank serve this role in various ways. All these organizations have rules and regulations in place to ensure fair distribution of resources. But sometimes those regulations stand in the way.
The Blessings Box has no rules. Our invitation is "Take what you need, leave what you can." Anyone is free to take food from the box at any time. We know that the box is used by families, the elderly, and single parents. Mindful of who we serve, we keep the box stocked with foods that are simple to prepare, or ready to eat right out of the can.

Want to help?
The Blessing Box is a ministry that's open to all. Other individuals and churches also help stock the Blessing Box. Since we started the ministry in 2017, we've kept track of what food items seem best suited for the this service. Recommended types of foods Breakfast: dry cereal, fruit cups, individual packet servings of oatmeal. Large containers tend to go unclaimed. Lunch: fruit cups, canned tuna, peanut butter, jelly, crackers, Spaghettios, individually wrapped snacks Dinner: canned ham, canned chili, canned vegetables, ramen noodles, macaroni and cheese mixes, soup. Canned goods Contents that are ready to eat, such as tuna fish, Vienna sausages, and canned fruit are ideal. Foods that can be simply prepared, such as beans, chili, and soup are also in demand. Packaged goods Individually wrapped snacks are ideal for children. Small packages of beans, peas, noodles, etc. also get taken, especially in colder months. If you're contributing foodstuffs from your own pantry, please check the expiration dates before you donate. |
