orange Presbyterian weekday school curriculum

The philosophy of Orange Presbyterian Weekday School encourages children to learn through play.  Our hands-on age-appropriate curriculum offers activities that provide great opportunities for children to grow academically, physically, spiritually, and socially, just as Jesus did.

We begin each morning with free play in our learning centers.  Centers change thematically throughout the year and include, building, dramatic play, art, reading, and discovery. Learning prompts and open-ended activities allow for engagement across age and ability levels. 

During circle time, students will learn about the letter of the week, the color and shape of the month, and the seasons.  Classroom jobs allow children to lead their classmates in the Pledge of Allegiance, calendar time, and reporting the weather. Teachers read and sing songs during circle time to enhance learning.  Children receive a bible lesson each week and a visit from Pastor Denny for chapel once a month.  

Classroom time includes snack and our focused-learning activity for the day.  We keep this time fun and engaging by changing up activities.  Children may do a craft, play with play dough, play a game, or complete an activity in our Fine Motor Journals.  During each two-week theme cycle teachers strive to include letter and number activities, practice patterns and rhyming, lots of music and movement, and fun science exploration. 

Following classroom time, children have the opportunity for gross motor play each day either on our playground, or in our large indoor play room. 

In addition to academics, social/emotional development is an integral part of the preschool experience. Interacting with peers, following directions, self-care, and independence are just a few areas we hope to develop during your child's time at OPWS.
