Twenty-second Sunday of Ordinary Time Hymn: 223 When I Survey the Wondrous Cross Call to worship: (Romans 12) Leader: Let us love one another genuinely, hate what is evil, and hold fast to what is good; All: Let us love one another with mutual affection; outdo one another in showing honor. Leader: Let us not lag in zeal, be ardent in spirit, and serve the Lord. All: Let us rejoice in hope, be patient in suffering, persevere in prayer. Leader: Let us contribute to the needs of the saints; extend hospitality to strangers. All: Let us worship the Lord in all we do and say! Opening prayer of confession O God, you are infinite, eternal and unchangeable, glorious in holiness, full of love and compassion, abundant in grace and truth. We humbly confess our sins and ask your mercy. We have not loved you with a pure heart, nor have we loved our neighbor as ourselves. We have not done justice, loved kindness, or walked humbly with you, our God. Have mercy on us, O God, in your loving-kindness. In your great compassion, cleanse us from our sin. Renew and restore a right spirit within us, this we pray. Amen. Assurance of Pardon: Hear the good news! The saying is sure and worthy of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners. I declare to you in the name of Jesus Christ, you are forgiven. Thanks be to God! Twentieth Sunday of Ordinary Time Call to worship: (Psalm 67:1-7) LEADER: May God be gracious to us and bless us and make God’s face to shine upon us, All: that God’s way may be known upon earth, God’s saving power among all nations. Leader: Let the peoples praise you, O God; let all the peoples praise you. The earth has yielded its increase; God, our God, has blessed us. All: May God continue to bless us; let all the ends of the earth revere the Lord. Hymn: 317 In Christ there is no East or West Opening prayer of confession God of all people, we come before you this day keenly aware of the ways we fall short of your vision for us and for our life together. You tell us how good and pleasant it is when we dwell together in unity, and yet we create division and cultivate disdain. You command us to care for each other, but we send away those crying out for help. You call us and put us together in community, but we want to pick and choose those with whom we associate. Forgive us for thinking we are self-sufficient and independent, rather than utterly dependent upon you and in need of each other. Help us to see ourselves and others as the beloved reflections of the divine we are and give us the grace to treat each other as such. Amen. Assurance of Pardon: God does not reject God’s people. God is merciful to all. Friends, believe the good news and be at peace: Through Jesus Christ we are forgiven! Thanks be to God.
