Finance Committee and endowment committee

Picture
The Finance Committee at Orange Presbyterian Church serves the congregation in many important ways.  The committee also oversees the activity of the Endowment Committee. That committee manages the church's endowments, investments, and scholarship fund. Some of the committee's roles include the following:

Tithes and offerings
  • Responsible for collecting, counting, depositing, and recording the congregation’s offerings.
  • Receive memorial and special gifts and ensure proper acknowledgement.
  • Oversee and assist the treasurer in accounting, receiving and disbursing money.
Financial Stewardship
  • Provide counsel when requests for non-budgeted expenses arise.
  • Provide Session a detailed monthly financial report of receipts and disbursements.
  • Provide a monthly report for the congregation on monies given to the church budget and special offerings.
  • Ensure the church’s financial records are independently audited annually.
  • Develop an annual budget for the total church program after receiving budget requests from the church’s committees and groups.
Memorials and endowments
  • Make recommendations annually to the Session (along with the Endowment Committee) of gifts suitable to be purchased as memorials. The committee can also help determine the appropriateness of suggested gifts, and assist donors in the selection of suitable memorial gifts.
  • Record memorial gifts given in the memorial book in the narthex of the church.
  • Provide an annual report to the congregation documenting memorial gifts given that year.
