Children’s Church
Begins in February

Children who are kindergarten through second grade will have the opportunity to be involved in special worship and music following the Time with the Children. (Younger children will still be in the nursery.) See Normie Sanford (672-5347) if you are interested in helping. |
Notes of Thanks
Thanks to our wonderful “volunteer crew” for the Christmas decorations we have enjoyed: Rod, Sandy, and Liam McLeod, Terri and Reed Richardson, Lulu Sherman, Lynn Clements, Marjorie and Buckshot Clements, Louise Whitaker, Bill Chapman, Jean Berckman, Winnie Higgins, Irwin Sherman, Anne Sommerville, and Al Packard.
Judson and Elaine Gardner
Thanks to all those who helped make this a special Advent/Christmas season with your Advent devotionals, candle lighting, special music, pageant participation, and all the other “behind-the-scenes” things that added to our worship. |
Take the Leap!
The 2008 Logos program will begin on Tuesdays in February. Make plans to participate in this program which “develops a genuine and lasting relationship between young people and Jesus Christ, between young people and their minister, parents and other adults of the congregation, and their peers.”
In January we’ll be putting together a team of volunteers. The parent’s meeting will be January 22 at 7:00 pm.
On February 5 we’ll kick off the program with a Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper cooked by our own Presbyterian Men. Please plan to attend!
To find out how you can help or if you have any questions, please contact Ellen Kendall (672-3081)

The Pastor's
Ponderings
A New Year - 2008
I’m sure by now you have started using your new calendars for 2008. I received several as gifts and others have come from businesses as a reminder of the services they offer. And yes, there will be a new hot air balloon calendar in my home for the new year!
It is my practice to go through a little ritual of taking down the old calendar and putting up the new. I like to take down the old one and page back through the year just past. It gives me the opportunity to do a little reminiscing – noting the important dates, trips taken, appointments kept, anniversaries of significant events, and a reminder of the ever-present march of another birthday.
That’s the first part of my annual ritual as I tuck the old calendar in the bottom drawer of a cabinet. The next part goes like this: I take the new calendar and flip through the pages. I like to take a moment to look at each of the pictures and note their suitability for each month. Then I look through the pages and ponder a few thoughts: What will this new year bring? What new places will I visit? What new people might come across my path this year? And I make some decisions – this will be the year to exercise, eat right, learn a new skill, get organized, you name it. Then I place the calendar on the wall satisfied with opening myself to the possibilities of a new year.
In each new chapter of our lives there is a certain amount of apprehension and hesitation. Will I be prepared for the challenge? Will I embrace this new year with hopeful optimism?
As God’s people let us look forward to this new year with all its promises and possibilities and where God might be leading us in the coming days.
Looking forward,
Denise

Wow! December was such a busy month in the preschool.
- We cooked, sang lots of Christmas carols, and made ornaments for our families.
- We also had a special guest in early December when Sarah Sydnor visited with us and did a dance workshop in the fellowship hall.
- We had our first “snow day,” a nice surprise for the teachers.
- Christmas came early to the parents. Ellen Kendall and Connie Norberg offered an extended day to each class. The children were thrilled about bringing their lunch to school and parents had an additional hour before picking up their children.
- The three-year old class celebrated the season with a cookie exchange on their last day. The older children spent many days practicing for their Christmas program on Wednesday the 19th and what a wonderful job they did.
- Pastor Denise read “Who is Coming to Our House” to both groups.
As always, thanks for being such strong supporters of our program.
Happy New Year.

News from Orange County Habitat for Humanity
Many of you in the Orange Presbyterian Church congregation are already supporters of Habitat for Humanity in Orange County. You pray for us, you support us financially, and you work on committees and special events. We thank you for all that support. This ministry would not be possible without many, many local supporters.
The latest Habitat newsletter is now available. You can find it on-line at our Habitat website (ochfh.org) or you can go by the Habitat office in our church and see a copy. You’ll find all the latest news on what we’ve been doing, and what we hope to do in the future.
As always, there are lots of ways you can continue to support Habitat for Humanity. We need someone to help our Treasurer with data entry (Quick Books).
We need people who can sit down with a family and help them work on a budget and a financial plan.
One of the most needed ways you can help is to hold a fundraising event to benefit Habitat. There are lots of ways this can be done…you are limited only by your imagination! If you have an idea for a fundraiser, let us know. We’d love to help with publicity or whatever you would need.
If you see the newsletter, you’ll know that Habitat has just closed on 38 acres of land in eastern Orange. Developing that land and building an approved road will be costly, and we cannot build any houses until that work happens.
If you have questions about the work of Orange County Habitat for Humanity, or if you want to volunteer, talk to one of the Board members in our church: Cindy Reid or Rev. Denise Hall, or talk to Gene Whitaker who edits our webpage.
