LOGOS, an after-school program for kindergarten through
eighth graders of Bible study, playtime, worship skills, music
and a family dinners.
The Logos Program provides an energizing retreat
in the middle of the week for youth participants and adult leaders. It
is a disciplined and structured program in which young people enjoy
Christian fellowship through creative recreational activities,
worship and music, group study, and sharing a meal together. Logos
is a strong supplement to, not a replacement for, the church's
Sunday School programs. The program also is a valuable tool
for family involvement and renewal, as parents and other members
of the church actively participate together. Logos is the "mid-week
miracle".
The
Program
There are four parts to our Logos program-- all of which
together are intended to provide a context for nurturing Christian
relationships. These four indispensable areas are Bible Study, Play
Time, Worship Skill Practice, and Family Time.
I. Bible Study
Logos offers a period of Bible Study that is the heart of the
program. Its
goal is to nurture children and youth into intelligent, obedient, biblically-informed
discipleship.
Some of the classes will include; people of faith in the Old Testament,
the life and stories of Jesus, and worship and prayer.
II. Playtime
This is a time for children and adults to experience great fun at the expense
of no one. We will play games, make crafts, and participate in other
planned activities so that Logos kids can build relationships while surrounded
by Christian love and acceptance.
III. Family Time
Family Time provides a joyous, intergenerational celebration over
a shared meal as we experience being the family of God. In
this dinner hour is opportunity for cultivating a unique sense
of the family of God, training in unselfishness and sharing, in
clean-up of tables, serving one another, etc. It builds enthusiasm,
devotion and a strong regard for the program. Manners, too,
come into the picture! The program time of the dinner hour
is used for group singing, games, and announcements.
IV. Worship Skills
In the Worship Skills segment of our program, youngsters are prepared
for meaningful participation in the church's worship life, recognizing
that, as disciples, worship is our primary service to God. There
will be work with music, drama and other means by which they
can contribute to our congregation's Sunday worship. The
children will be encouraged to attend Sunday worship with their
families to share what they have learned as a class.
Parent Participation
Parents are called to take an active role in nurturing their children
in Christian faith, and the Logos Program provides ways for them
to do this. Parents of Logos students are asked to help them
with Logos assignments, to encourage them in regular participation,
to be approachable and to counsel with them, and to rear them in "the
nurture and admonition of the Lord."
The Purposes of Logos
- To create an understanding and desire in young people for accepting
Christ as Lord and personal Savior;
- To develop intelligent, active, and loyal membership in the
Church;
- To give worthwhile study, wholesome recreation and opportunities
for service, all bound up in a true Christian fellowship;
- To develop the kind of Christians who are able and willing
to communicate their faith and to assume personal responsibility
in assisting in the building of God's kingdom on earth.
- To develop genuine and lasting relationships between young
people and Jesus Christ, between young people and their ministers,
parents and other adults of the congregation and their peers.
Check out the National
Logos Organization for more details on the program.
